Since then, I have been intrigued by these guys and gal that (in my mind) stole the show Halloween night. As the Boynton Beach based trio prepares to release their latest single, “Judy Garland”, we sat down with them to see what’s going on in their land of Oz.</p> <p style="">Having been a unit for a few years now, Russ (guitar/programming), Alicia (vocals), and Martin (bass) seem more like a family than anything else. There is a closeness about them that is apparent from the moment all three of them are in the room. When I asked Russ why there was no drummer in their act, the response was simple, programming the tracks himself is easier and more consistent. Not having a live drummer also cuts down on the amount of noise coming out of their practice space. Well, while the venue is indeed now Sea Monster, a few months back the cats from Squeeze approached the current owners with the idea of doing some kinda throwback night on the third Saturday of every month. Apparently they&#39;ve already thrown a couple parties (this is all news to us). And each was reportedly more successful than the last. Which means by the time Kill Miss Pretty hits the stage with Daisy Berkowitz, things will undoubtedly be wall-to-wall. </div><p /><div>Here are the facts: <a href="http://www.killmisspretty.com/">Kill Miss Pretty</a>, who were <a href="http://www.browardpalmbeach.com/2009-03-26/music/m-eacute-nage-agrave-pop/">glowingly featured</a> in a <i>New Times</i> Broward-Palm Beach cover story back in March of &#39;09, have a new single coming out in February. The song is called &quot;Judy Garland,&quot; and it features the axe work of KMP pal Scott Putesky, better known as former Mansonoid Daisy Berkowitz.</div> <div><p /><div>To celebrate the release of said single, KMP and Daisy B will be performing together at Squeeze at Sea Monster. In addition to the new track, and all your KMP favorites, the gang promises to pull out some old stuff from the beloved Spooky Kids. And, according to KMP&#39;s Russ Rogers, the whole gaggle are &quot;gonna be themed in kind of a wacky <i>Wizard of Oz-</i>meets-<i>Lunchbox</i> reject feel. Art of Shade&#39;s Kayce Armstrong is even designing [KMP singer] Alicia&#39;s Dorothy dress.&quot; </div> <p /><div>Got it? Good. We&#39;ll remind you again closer to show time. href="http://www.killmisspretty.com/">Kill Miss Pretty</a> announced Sunday via <a href="http://twitter.com/killmisspretty">Twitter</a> that they are giving away their two albums, <em>Permission for Strange</em> and 2006 EP <em>Bite Your Tongue</em>, for free. The trio, which consists of vocalist Alicia, guitarist Russ, and bassist Martin, blend indie rock and electro for a sideshow that is one part carnival, one part sex (mainly on Alicia&#39;s part), and one part glam. One might think that the costumes (or lack thereof) are the main draw, but event organizers Rodney Mayo and Maurice Costigan go out of their way every year to cull an outstanding array of local musical talent as entertainment. <p /> This year, there were showcases by road-tested bands like Miami&#39;s Nothing Rhymes With Orange and funk-rocking West Palm Beach quintet Big Bang Radio on the bill. But audiences were also treated with the return of West Palm Beach&#39;s local boys made good, Surfer Blood, who in a matter of six months have gone from scrounging gigs in Lake Worth dive bars to becoming indie rock blog darlings.<p /> First we took in a set from Boynton Beach electro-punk trio <b>Kill Miss Pretty</b>. When we last saw them at Respectable Street&#39;s anniversary party, they suffered through a myriad of technical difficulties. But their glam-tastic industrial crunk was perfectly dished out at Moonfest. Lead vocalist Alicia Olink, dressed as a sexy, trashy zebra, wiggling her bikini-bottomed derriere to the beat of kittenish tune &quot;El Gato,&quot; was quite the eye candy. Her vocals came across as a Courtney Love, but friskier on this one. Guitarist/programmer Russell Rogers and bassist Martin Davis did a great job backing her up with menacing production work on &quot;Music is Nothing.&quot; It reminded us of something off a Rob Zombie soundtrack, perfect full-moon-on-Halloween fare.<p /> Nothing Rhymes With Orange played next. Fresh from a stint of U.K. dates, the four-piece demonstrated more than just a little Anglophilia with its arena-size melodies, sung by lead vocalist Carl Coccaro with rousing, Ian McCulloch-esque pipes. They performed instant new anthems like &quot;Headlines and Deadlines,&quot; which we could have sworn was a Verve cover, and ended it with mid-tempo ballad &quot;Classic&quot; with Coccaro crooning over his brother Rich&#39;s perfect guitar jangle.<p /> After the evening&#39;s best costume contest winner, Mr. Dick in the Box, was announced, the much anticipated set by West Palm Beach&#39;s Surfer Blood commenced. The first noticeable thing is that group has expanded to a five-piece, with the addition of percussionist Marcos Marchesani. Although he injected a lot of zest the rest of the troupe&#39;s scuzz, when he was bouncing around like a mad man striking the cowbell on &quot;Twin Peaks,&quot; we really wondered if perhaps Marchesani was not a member of LMFAO making a cameo. &quot;Swim (To Reach the End)&quot; showcased lead vocalist J.P. Pitts&#39; range, as he reached for a deep Frank Black-style cathartic howl.  During vulnerable set ender &quot;Catholic Pagans,&quot; Pitts ran past the tambourine-playing centaur and did a full-on stage dive towards the crowd. It was an entertaining end to a fantastic performance.
